Conditioning: Cross jumping

Reaction is as skill that players need to develop through conditioning and drills. The point to this drill is having players practice quick directional changes on the field. It starts by placing players in a small four square box. Changes can be made so that the player will only use one foot and then the other while they run the drill.

In order to win football games you need to have possession of the football. The fastest way to gain possession of the ball is to force an offensive player to fumble the football. This drill practices with two players. Have the defender move up on the offensive player, trust his arms back and then forward with his fists clenched. The point is to have the defensive player throw the fist into the football causing the offensive player to fumble the football. This drill is most effective if you start it slow focusing on the motions needed to be effective, and then speed up over time.

Water on and off the field

Dehydration should never appear on the football field if both the players and coaches have good habits. Times have changed and coaches these days should be aware of hydration needs and not use water as a reward, or withhold it as a punishment. Keeping everyone happy and hydrated will go a long way to a successful practice.
